Self Reflection

Summative Evaluation

My first year and a half in the ATPI program was a time of self discovery. Once I gained confidence in my ability to become a member of the scholarly community, I never looked back. In the past year alone, I have been published both independently and collaboratively, provided mentoring to other students in our program and shown success at the teaching level. My service in associations has gained me a solid reputation as a serious contributor to the academic community. My academic achievements have helped me earn several scholarships and opportunities to work on projects within the department. I am looking forward to continuing along this path as I work on my dissertation and continue to publish in recognized journals.

Areas of Personal Strength

Three of my core strengths are my love of learning, my critical-thinking skills and my perseverance.  My love of learning has led me to explore topics outside of my focus area, which has increased my ability to become a well-rounded researcher. It has also helped me work collaboratively with others on academic and research projects. My critical-thinking skills have allowed me to conduct substantive research because I am not content to just focus on the obvious. Finally, my perseverance has helped me stay on target and not give up when faced with challenges that easily could have impacted my ability to succeed in the ATPI program.

Areas for Further Improvement

Conducting good, quality research is a skill, and it is one that I will continue to improve on for quite some time. I would like to become better skilled in different methodologies and become more creative in my quantitative research. To date, I have utilized surveys, but I am continually reading and examining how others in my field are exploring phenomenon to see what I can learn.
